Joshua Appel, MD
Dr. Andrew Joshua Appel has an Ivy League dual fellowship in both orthopedic spinal surgery and orthopedic traumatology. He specializes in a broad spectrum of spinal issues with a focus on minimally invasive surgery (MIS) of the spine, as well as motion preserving techniques, such as disc arthroplasty.
Dr. Appel completed his general surgery internship at the University of Virginia (UVA) and went on to complete his orthopedic residency at Brown University. He continued his training at Brown under the tutelage of Dr. Peter Trafton, a world renowned orthopedic traumatologist. After completion of his trauma fellowship, he went on to complete a second fellowship in spine surgery at Brown University.
Dr. Appel prides himself on a “patient first” attitude. He has always been interested in the advancement of patient care, as well as the advancement of orthopedic surgery. His motto is, “treat the patient not the film.” Prior to his medical career, he completed a master’s degree in the field of molecular genetics. He has multiple peer reviewed publications, and poster and podium presentations.
Dr. Appel is trained in the most current technology, including endoscopic spinal surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques, as well as total disc replacements.
